Short answer: buy from the official site, reached by typing the address yourself or through a link you trust, and be wary of everything else. Plan packs get copied, resold and repackaged a lot, and a buyer who skips the check can end up with a bad file or no recourse. This page covers what to check and where the tradeoffs are.
The quick rule of thumb
- Official site: the only place where you can reliably confirm current price, package contents, delivery method and the refund terms as written.
- Marketplaces and resellers: a different seller means different terms, and you may not get the same support or guarantee.
- "Free PDF" downloads: skip them. The risks are covered below.
Details change, so confirm everything on the official site on the day you buy. I won't quote prices here because they can be updated at any time. For how pricing and offers are usually handled, see Buying Ted's Woodworking: Price, Discounts and Refunds.
Buying from the official site
What to check before paying
- Read the address bar. Look for a secure connection (the padlock) and a domain that matches the official name exactly. Lookalike domains with extra words, odd endings or swapped letters are a common trick.
- Find the stated terms. Look for the refund wording, the delivery method and what the package says it includes. Screenshot or save them for your records.
- Use a payment method with buyer protection. That is generally a credit card or a well-known payment service. Check your own provider's rules, because they vary.
- Keep your receipt and download links. Save the confirmation email and download the files promptly to your own storage.
The step-by-step is in How to Order Ted's Woodworking: Step-by-Step Checkout Guide and Official Link. To see what should arrive after checkout, read Ted's Woodworking Bonuses and Package Contents, then compare it with what the official page lists today.
A note on links from review sites
Many review pages, including this one, may use affiliate links, which can pay a commission at no extra cost to you. That is normal, but you should know about it. Our answer is here: Does this site earn a commission if I buy Ted's Woodworking through your link?. If you'd rather not use any link, type the official address yourself. Either way, check that you land on the official checkout. If you're curious how those programs work, see the affiliate program explainer.
Marketplaces and third-party sellers
Marketplaces are convenient, and some buyers prefer their return systems. For a digital plan pack, though, you should ask a few questions first:
- Is the seller the actual publisher, or an authorised reseller the official site names? If you can't tell, treat it as unverified.
- Does the listing describe contents that match the official page, or is it vague?
- Whose refund policy applies, the marketplace's or the publisher's? Digital goods are often handled differently from physical ones.
- Is it a "bundle" of many woodworking plans from unknown sources? That is not the same product.
I can't tell you which marketplaces, if any, carry legitimate listings. The official site is the place to look for that.
Comparison: where you might buy
| Source | What you can verify | Main risk | My take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official site | Current terms, contents, refund wording | Lookalike sites if you click carelessly | Best option; check the address |
| Marketplace listing | Depends on seller and listing | Unclear seller, different support and terms | Proceed only if the seller is verifiably legitimate |
| Forum, social or file-share "free PDF" | Nothing reliable | Malware, partial or altered files, no support | Avoid |

Why "free" usually costs you
- Malware. Executable files disguised as a PDF or "downloader" are a classic trap. Real plans are documents, not installers.
- Incomplete or altered plans. A missing page or a changed dimension is annoying on a screen and costly once you've cut lumber. Where a cut list drives a power-tool project, a wrong measurement is also a safety concern.
- No support and no refund. You can't claim a guarantee on something you didn't buy.
- Copyright problems. Sharing or downloading copied paid material may be unlawful where you live. If you're unsure about your own situation, ask a qualified legal professional.
- Stolen payment details. Some "free" pages ask for a card "for verification". Don't enter one.
If you're sent a file by a friend
Licensing terms differ, so read what the official purchase allows. Our answer on sharing and multiple devices covers this, but the official terms are the final word.
Spotting fake deals and codes
Pages promising a huge one-day discount, a "last copies" countdown or a mystery coupon should make you slow down. Check any code at the official checkout, not on a third-party page. Our guide, Discount and Coupon Codes: What Is Real, What Is Fake and How to Check, walks through it.
Also be careful with claims about access and trials. Don't assume a free trial or lifetime access because a reseller says so. Compare the answers on free trial and lifetime access with the official page.
Is it worth buying at all?
That depends on how many projects you build and whether free plans already cover you. Two pages help: Free vs Paid Woodworking Plans and the review-style verdict, Is Ted's Woodworking Worth It?. If you decide to buy, read the refund policy guide first so you know how the guarantee is stated and how to claim it.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Type or verify the official address.
- Confirm price, contents and refund wording on the page that day.
- Pay with a method that has buyer protection.
- Save the receipt and download your files.
- Walk away from any "free" copy.
